Fear the Roo

Hello all!  I am trying to get back into the swing of things with blogging.   Today, I have a card that I made for my little sis, who just recently graduated from college!   Sooooo super proud of her!  Her school mascot is a kangaroo so, I used the little baby kangaroo on B is for Boy to start this card.  He is so super cute and possibly the cut that sold me on this cartridge so, I HAD to use it!   I cut it at 4 1/2" in brown papers.

The school mascot is named zippy so, I used an old zipper as my 'ribbon' on this one.   The frame was cut at 1 1/4" from Once Upon a Princess and the sentiment was printed off the computer.   The corners were cut from an EK Success punch and the paper from GCD, the Chic Babe stack
On the inside, I used left over paper and the rest of my computer printed sentiment.   It was a real hit!

Fishing you a Great Day Mermaid

I think the reason I love the My Pink Stamper National Scrapbook Day challenge is because they are fun and last year I was able to make some cards ahead of time, to use later in the summer.   That's how this one turned out.  Once I got started, I thought, this will be prefect for my little mermaid for her July BD.   So, I cut the girl and mermaid outfit from the Once Upon a Princess cartridge at 3", it includes the little seahorse as well.  I glittered her tail with aqua stickles.   The mat paper is from Cosmo Cricket's Salt Air stack.

I used the Fiskars wave border punch to cut the waves out from all the layers, inluding the top of the card base.   The seaweed/pearls are a stamp from Inkadinkadoo and the sentiment is from Scrappy Moms.

Inside, I used the same seaweed stamp and a couple others from Studio G.   I think it's ADORABLE!!!

Poodles of Fun

The next My Pink Stamper challenge is a 'project' that includes a pet.  The sentiment on this card is from a Scrappy Moms set that my husband got me for Christmas and it inspired me to make a birthday card for my coworker, who loves dogs.
I cut the poodle from the Once Upon a Princess cartridge at 4".  After I cut it, I decided not to use any of the layers.   Once I cut it, I could pictured one of the poodles you see that have been shaved to down with poofs of fur at the bottoms of the feet and the chest.   Sooooo, I 'taped' off all of the parts that I didn't want flocked and then ran the poodle through the xyron.   Before I added the flock, I removed the taped parts (because now they are sticky on the front and I don't want to waste any flock sticking to them).

I didn't like the way that the head of the poodle is...it kind of looks like two noses.   So, I cut the one side off and trimmed it up and then glued it back on to look like the poodles ear.   I used a black sharpie to color the nose and then used Glossy Accents to make the nose shiney.   I added a black gem for the eye and three pearl gems for a collar and then a little white gel pen at the tips of the feet to look like a french manicure.  :)
The tag was also cut from the Once Upon a Pricness, poodle cut, using the tag function.   I punched two slits on each side of the tag and then ran black solid ribbon through it.   The mat paper is from the DCWV Luxury stack and the corner punch from Fiskar's.

On the inside, I used a gray vellum and a strip of the mat paper, with a piece of the ribbon covering the seam.   The sentiment is a dollar sentiment that I didn't ink the flowers on and it was stamped onto a second tag that I cut.

Hey Cupcake

Today's card was inspired by two things, my friend who is a baker and mainly of cupcake creations and The Fantabulous Cricut Challenge.
So, I got a Crop A Dile from my husband for Christmas but, I had yet to use it so, I decided this was the time.  I cut this card 3 1/2 x 6".  I decided to have the 1/2" across the top be a place for my eyelet's that I was going to mount with my Crop A Dile so, I scored the card at 5 1/2", 6", and 6 1/2" and then sealed the 1/2" top with ATG tape.   The polka dot paper is from the new DCWV Dots, Stripes and Plaids.  I added a strip to the 1/2" section across the top and then a piece of red dot ribbon from Michael's in a way that you can 'hang' the card if you want.

I cut the cupcake from the Once Upon a Princess cartridge at 3 1/4" but, I decided to cut the main cut twice and just trim the icing part off the top of the pink one.  The base cut was brown and then I traced the bottom a little larger than it was, cut it out of red paper and ran it through my Fiskars crimper so that it would look like a real cupcake holder.   I also inked the edges of the frosting and a little around the crease cuts (it looks much better in person).  I cut across the top with pinking shears and added some little red heart confetti as sprinkles and then pop dotted it onto the card.
Across the top, I added a strip of red paper that was crimped and then a line of heart stickers.   The sentiment is from G Studio and then mounted on a brown piece of paper that I punched with an EK success heart banner style border punch.

On the inside, I mounted another sheet of the pink paper and put a strip of the dot paper across the top and border punched the bottom with the Fiskar's punch.  Many more projects lie ahead with the Crop A Dile!!!

A castle fit for a princess!!!

So today is my biggest birthday project! I made four, yes, that's right, FOUR, 3D castles from the Once Upon a Princess cartridge. You can only see two in this picture (one in the background). I used them as centerpieces on some of the tables at the party and put some crimped green paper around them to appear like grass. A few tricks to cutting this castle. I wanted to cut it at 11" but, I was a little bewildered because some of the cuts you can't cut unless you use a 12x24 mat and 'turn' the image using DS.

The shift images on Page 75 & 76 have to be turned 90 degrees either way to make them horizontal and fit on the page at 11". Again, if you decided to cut bigger than 11", you would have to hide contour on one shape at a time and do individual cuts for each piece of those two 'cuts'. And the cut on Page 76 for the layer shift, the roofs for the towers, you would really need to adjust the layout if you made the castle too much bigger.

I also think it's important to note that it's a good idea to do the scoring and gluing where you can a bit before you really want to assemble the castle. It's a bit of a waiting game if you and sitting, waiting for the glue and trying to assemble. Another tip is not to fold the 'tabs' at the tops of the towers in too much. I think it's much easier for the 'roofs' to glue on when the 'tabs' are touching the roofs. If you fold them in too much, the glue doesn't even touch when you put the roof on. :)

Anyone that has any questions, feel free to ask, I'd be glad to help but, it really was an easy, low cost centerpiece after I made the first one! Good luck!!!

Princess Birthday Card

Today we have the card that I made for my little princess. I used the 3rd princess on the Once Upon a Princess cartridge and cut her at 3". I cut the layer for her hair and face twice, once in pink for the face and yellow for the hair. I cut the layers for her dress, crown and wand using the DCWV glitter stack's pink, blue, & purple. The printed mat was from a baby stack I had and the Happy Birthday are brads that I picked up at the Flower Factory in a bd themed set. On the inside, I cut the word princess using the phrase funtion of the cartridge. Time really wasn't on my side so I didn't cut the layers for the phrase but, I was happy with the way it turned out and she loved it!!!

Her Royal Banner!

Today's project is a crown banner that I made using the Once Upon a Princess cartridge. I used the banner creative function to cut alternate pink & purple crowns for each letter. I set them up in DS at 4 3/4" so that I would cut each letter in the right color and then I cut the opposite color as a solid background. Once I put the two together, I decided to cut the gem shape that was part of the layer for the crown cut I used on the loot bags and added them to the banner crowns along with some more silver stickles. I attached each crown letter of the banner to the next with alternating pink & purple square brads that I got at Joann's. I hung each word using basic pink ribbon from Michaels.

If the Crown Fits...

The next few posts will be projects instead of cards. We just wrapped up my daughters princess birthday party and of course, I used my Once Upon a Princess cartridge to make several things and help with the decorating!

My first project was the Crown Loot bags. I used the Once Upon a Princess and cut the crown and all the layers at 3 1/2". I cut alternating colors to coordinate with the bags I purchased form Target. After I glued all the layers together, I decided some stickles in the center of the 'gems' were needed. I used the silver. I then added a tag to each bag with the childs name (example: Princess Emily & Prince Andrew). I used a large Tag punch that I already had to cut two different colors for each tag. A couple weeks before the party, I picked up a Martha Stewart Crafts Crown shaped punch for $4.50 at WM, just in time to help with the party. I used the Crown punch to cut a crown out of the top tag and then glued the top tag to an alternate color solid bottom tag!

Princess Castle Invites

I have completed the Princess Castle Invites for my daugther's BD party. I used the Once Upon A Princess cartridge. To make this one, I used DS for the base of the card. I chose the shadow option of the castle in 5" and then selected another castle and used the flip option to turn it the opposite way so that they fit togehter perfectly when folded. I lined them up and used the weld option to cut them as once piece, creating a folded card. All of the layers were then cut at 5" as well.

I printed the interior invitation wording on a lightweight cardstock. I could cut two 'invites' per page but, I had to use DS to line up the wording with the first layer cut of the castle so that it would cut the wording correctly to fit on the layer and then in the card. Pretty easy to do with a little trial and error. I am happy with the way they turned out. Now to get to work on a banner, loot bags, and some other items for the party! :)
